Personal Log: Riker, William T. - Commander U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 D

The Captain is back from Earth. I, for one, am very relieved. Maybe thing's will soon get back to normal.

Hopefully.

Maybe.

Personal Log: Riker, William T. - Commander

It's good to finally back from Risa. Not that it isn't a beautiful planet, it is, but the Enterprise is just more my speed.

Actually, let me rephrase: the Enterprise is more my speed when her crew is working with their customary efficiency. During my absence, a virus hit the ship, incapacitating the crew. Worf tells me we lost nearly an entire shift's worth of work before it was contained. I think I'll have the Science Department do an overview of our decontamination procedures, to keep this from happening again. We are the flagship, after all, we have a reputation for excellence to keep up.

My little mystery is closer to being solved. Worf has agreed to lend his formidable code-breaking skills to decrypting it. Is it from my Dad? Or was my finding it just after I visited with him just a coincidence? If it was from my Dad, why go to all the trouble of an encrypted message?

Commander's Log

Well, that was different. I met with Dad, but he seemed distracted. I don't think it was our usual stuff, he was a million miles away. I'm all geared up to tangle with the behemoth and I get a space cadet. Huh.

The conference wrapped up nicely. I got a lot of information on the socio-political forecasts for the Federation. Perhaps the Captain might like to look at it, it's interesting.

Well, I've got a long journey back to the Enterprise, time for a little Satchmo.

End Log

Update: Looking in my music collection, I've found something unusual. It's my PADD, but there's a file full of... gibberish. There are strange symbols and numbers, but it doesn't seem to be in any recognizable pattern.

I'll have to see if I can get it decoded on the Enterprise.

Commander's Personal Log

The past few days of sun and relaxation have been just what the doctor ordered. Although I resisted before I left, now I'm glad I came to Risa two days before the conference begins. I'll have to thank the captain for the time off. I wonder if he has a horgon...

About the conference, I'm looking forward to it, but to be honest I'm more concerned about seeing my father again tomorrow than with the 'socio-political projections on the effects of Federation public policy on non-aligned worlds for the next hundred and fifty years'. Our relationship is better now than it has been since Mom was alive, but we still tread carefully around each other. I think he even had doubts about my accepting his invitation to this conference.

He's sent me a communique from the Huron already, telling me he'll arrive tomorrow. He wants to see me after he gives his presentation, he was very insistent, it must be important.
